Welcome Message from Organising Chair

Dear Conference Participants,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 7th Singapore Palliative Care Conference (SPCC 2020), which is slated to be held in the first quarter of 2021. The theme of this conference is "Embrace · Engage · Envision" .

The year 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Singapore Hospice Council. It is therefore timely, that SPCC 2020 invites everyone to embrace our rich history and discover for ourselves the core values of compassion, strength and resilience that lie deep within our roots.

The Singapore Hospice Council is celebrating its 25th anniversary this yearIt is also pertinent that we review our progress and ensure our continual relevance to the evolving needs of the populations we serve. To do so, Palliative Medicine must reach out of our traditional boundaries to engage healthcare professionals beyond the fraternity, as well as community services and industrial partners in relevant fields. It is only through bridging the divide amongst specialities, services and interest groups that we may extend holistic and comprehensive care to patients and their families. SPCC 2020 promises to provide the platform for participants to network with healthcare professionals, caregivers, scientists, volunteers and educators regionally and globally. We expect to welcome 800-1000 delegates to this event.

This conference will feature plenaries by esteemed international speakers, pertinent updates on clinical practice, as well as presentations on recent scientific development. Building on the community’s shared knowledge, skills and insight, SPCC aspires to provide our participants with an inspirational vision into the future of hospice and palliative care.

On behalf of the Organising Committee, we welcome you to Singapore and SPCC 2020. We are certain it will be a rich learning and networking experience!

Welcome Message from Scientific Chair

Dear colleagues and friends,

We are planning an exciting and engaging programme for the upcoming Singapore Palliative Care Conference (SPCC). The main themes are “embracing the person in palliative care”, “engaging partners for excellence in palliative care” and “envisioning the future of palliative care”. Workshops will address clinically relevant and immediately applicable topics such as ethics, palliative care nursing, palliative care in neurodegenerative diseases, breathlessness management, psychosocial therapies for the general healthcare providers and serious illness conversations..

The main conference will have a stellar line-up of local and international speakers to inspire us in the field of palliative care and beyond. The topics will be relevant to both specialist palliative care providers, as well as generalist palliative care providers in neighbouring fields of practice such as family medicine, respiratory medicine, cardiology, renal medicine, oncology and geriatrics, among others. Programme highlights include pain management, burnout and resilience, dementia care, palliative care education and ethics.

Nonetheless, we are facing unprecedented times with the escalating Covid-19 situation globally. In light of this, we are postponing the conference to March 2021. We have contacted our local and overseas speakers; most have indicated their commitment to speak at the re-scheduled SPCC and we hope to keep most of the planned scientific programme. We will also have additional content on emerging topics such as the provision of palliative care during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the midst of all the uncertainties, we remain hopeful that brighter days lie ahead. We look forward to welcoming you to SPCC in March 2021! SPCC promises to be a great opportunity for learning, rediscovering our inspiration for holistic clinical practice, and reconnecting with old friends as well as making new ones in the ever-widening palliative care community. Until we meet – take care and keep well!
